As a Research 1 University, the Lamar Dodd School of Art is committed to supporting our students and faculty in their research and art practice. With less than 30% of our support coming from the state for our programming and research, we look to private support to help us achieve excellence. It takes a winning combination of annual gifts and transformational gifts to run our art program. Our annual fund is an excellent way to help, with every gift and gift amount making a difference.

Every gift matters.

Our Priorities

School of Art Excellence Fund

Our discretionary fund is our number one funding source for programming, departments, student, and faculty support. We are grateful for state support; however, with state funding supporting less than 30% of the School's operating budget, we realize that it's our donors who help the school provide excellence.

This year, in particular, we used our Excellence Funds to support our Breakfast with Professionals virtual speaker series. Alumni and professionals were able to be engaged with the School, speaking to our students, talking about career paths, marketing their work, and how to connect and network with industry professionals.

Opportunity Fund

The Art School is committed to making the educational experience and the environment equitable and just for all of our students, faculty, alumni, community, artists, and scholars. The purpose of the fund is to provide support for students who are underrepresented in their disciplines. Support may include, but not be limited to, awards, experiential learning opportunities, research, travel, conferences, exhibitions, art supplies, and other related expenses.

Athenaeum Contemporary Gallery and Research Space

Our large, open-format contemporary art space will expose UGA students, faculty, and our surrounding community to art and artists rarely seen outside of cities like New York, Berlin, or Miami. This fund will support cutting-edge exhibitions, supplemented by educational programming with leading scholars, curators, and artists who will profoundly enrich the University's curricula in Art, Art History, Art Education, and Curatorial Studies, providing immediate and repeated exposure to leading practitioners in these fields.

School of Art Studio Support Fund

The School of Art's Facilities and Labs are world-class. This fund provides support for our students, giving them access to labs and equipment, without incurring any of the expenses. Our labs are multi-disciplinary, meaning that all areas of the school have the opportunity to try new and innovative ways to enhance their research and practice. Another bonus...students working in labs, will work alongside our esteemed faculty and graduate students. It's pretty magical!
