Gabrielle Gagné: The Grid Made Human

Gabrielle Gagné: The Grid Made Human
August 28 - September 26, 2025

Opening: Thursday, Sept 4, 2025, 5 - 7 pm

The Dodd Galleries present The Grid Made Human, a new site-specific installation by Gabrielle Gagné in the Bridge Gallery comprising natural and manmade fibers that forms not only a literal fabric, but a social one as well. Inspired by nature and community, Gagné’s practice uses foraged and gleaned fibers including evasive species, agricultural compost and trash to explore the emotional relationship between humans and their lived environment.

Gagné says that “materials act as a record of human activity,” and their anthropological interest in materials stems from the stories and relationships they can epigenetically hold. For Gagné, The Grid Made Human is a creative expression of how fibers can carry an innate muscle memory.

About the Artist

Gabrielle Gagné is a French-Canadian papermaker. They are a current MFA candidate at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. They hold an interdisciplinary bachelors degree from Bishop’s University and the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec and were the recipient of the Haystack Opportunity Fund, which led to a residency with Pam Deluco making paper of foraged and recycled fibers (2022). They have co-hosted multiple experimental collective paper making workshops.

For more information, contact Rachel Waldrop, Director and Curator, Dodd Galleries and Atheneum: rachel.waldrop@uga.edu. The Dodd Galleries are open M-Fri in the main Lamar Dodd School of Art building, from 9am-4:30pm. The Lamar Dodd School of Art is closed on weekends, University holidays, and home game days.

The Grid Made Human is supported by UGA’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and The Lamar Dodd School of Art. For support opportunities, contact Grace Mercer, Development Associate: grace.mercer@uga.edu
