Jewelry and Metalwork faculty and students stage exhibition during NYC Jewelry Week 2023

Students and faculty in the Lamar Dodd School of Art’s Jewelry and Metalwork program present Ring on a String during NYC Jewelry Week 2023. In recognition of the first National Ring Show that started in Athens, Georgia and traveled the country by Greyhound bus, a new group of rings take the streets again. In the same spirit as the National Ring show that traveled for 3 years starting in 1977, this traveling pop-up exhibition features work by students, faculty, and staff at the University of Georgia, in which the only parameter is the ring.

The open call invites any medium and any contemporary twist to the wearable object, encouraging variety and ingenuity of the makers. With the convenience of a simple string as the installation device, the exhibition can easily travel to galleries, parks, subways, and everything in between, making for an accessible format for jewelers and non-jewelers alike. The artists hope to showcase the range of research being developed at UGA, and invite the public to view the exhibition anywhere and everywhere.

An additional opportunity to see UGA student work on view during NYC Jewelry Week 2023 presents itself at the Pratt Institute in the SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths) exhibition Still Processing, juried by Cappy Counard and Lorraine West. MFA student Sarah Bouchard is one among a range of SNAG members selected to showcase a diverse spectrum of materials and aesthetics, levels of experience and background.
