The Lamar Dodd School of Art offers a number of courses focusing on special topics for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Such topics range from practical research methods to in-depth research in the field of Art History and beyond. These courses offer a unique opportunity for both our faculty and students to explore a particular subject that is not typically taught with such intensity.

This fall students will have the opportunity to work with Professor Stephen Scheer.

ARST 4210/7210: Special Topics in Photo

Personal Histories in Photography

TR | 11:00 AM-1:45 PM

Photo Majors: CRN 38791 | Art Majors+Minors: CRN 7284 | Grads: CRN 38792

Students will create narrative works using photography, writing, objects, and related media such as video and sound to express personal histories about their lives, their friends and families, plus strangers and acquaintances near and far. Working with personal and family collections and archives, as well as acquisitions from unknown or anonymous sources, in combination with new work made in response to researching all of the above – students will build new narratives about places, people, things and culture – of cities and suburbs and the natural environment, in both documentary and fictional representations.
