Associate Professor Marni Shindelman has edited a recently released publication, The Focal Press Companion to the Constructed Image in Contemporary Photography. The book was co-edited by Anne Leighton Massoni and published by Routledge. This compendium examines the choices, construction, inclusions and exemptions, and expanded practices involved in the process of creating a photograph. Professor of Art Diane Edison currently has a solo exhibition Neil Britton Art Gallery at Virginia Wesleyan University. Portraits is on view through November 2. Diane Edison’s large-scale portraits are completed with colored pencils on black paper. Her drawings require a singularly concentrated process of observation and rendering. Ji Yeo’s exhibition Beauty Recovery Room is on display in the Dodd Photography Area’s Hardigree Hall on the second floor south wing through October 20. The show was curated by Photography Fellow Forest Kelley. Beauty Recovery Room shows the wounded faces and bodies of women who have recently undergone plastic surgery. Current Dodd MFA student Amanda Britton, is featured in the group exhibition Spotlight on Student Fiber Trends 2018 at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina. Britton’s work took second place in the exhibiton. The exhibition is on view through November 2. Spotlight on Student Fiber Trends 2018, a Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance‘s (SEFAA) exhibition, features the work of 23 students enrolled in high school, college, and graduate-level fiber programs throughout the Southeast. UGA Students and Professor Restore Historical Mural in Madison, Georgia

Color the World Bright, a group lead by Dodd Professor Joseph Norman and including Dodd students, Ben Thrash, Lia Davis, Madison Gibson, Elizabeth Qardan, and student project manager Katie Eidson, recently completed the restoration of a historical mural in Madison, Georgia. This is the second “ghost sign” Norman and his students have worked on. “Not only is this tremendous outreach to the larger Georgia community, but an excellent example of conservation and restoration,” say Norman. The students will be honored by the city of Madison later in October.

The Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation is excited to announce a new exhibitions that includes a number of Dodd MFA students opening October 5. “Drawn to Scale:” Installations in Black Tape by Studio Core Students

Professor Imi Hwangbo’s ARST 1060 Color and Composition class has a group exhibition on the walls of the Studio Core Project Space, which is located on the main Dodd building’s first floor at N105. These thirty-two students worked in collaborative groups and created large-scale drawings in black tape as a part of the studio art core curriculum. The show is open to the public and will be on view until October 18, 2018.
