The 2018 edition of ATHICA’s annual juried exhibition opened on Saturday, November 3, 2018 and runs through December 9, 2018. Scientific Illustration Brings ZBrush™ to the Dodd

This semester, instructor and Dodd alum Wes Price (BFA ’93) joined the Lamar Dodd School of Art to offer a one-of-a-kind workshop course, Special Problems: ZBrush™ for Science Illustration. Traditionally the techniques used by scientific illustrators have been pencil and paint on two-dimensional paper. Nowadays, these visual communication professionals are also employing three-dimensional digital sculpting into their workflow, using a software that is more prevalent in the gaming and film industries, Pixologic ZBrush™. Recently, the Scientific Illustration area purchased ZBrush licenses for their students to have full access to this unique 3D software that is not available to them on any other part of the UGA campus....

Professor Sunkoo Yuh to Present at Figurative Association Symposium

Professor Sunkoo Yuh will be a presenter at the third Figurative Association Symposium hosted by the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, taking place November 7 until November 10 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This year’s symposium will consist of ten artist speakers: Jessica Calderwood, Michael Dixon, Judy Fox, Richard W. James, Curt LaCross, Stephanie Metz, LJ Roberts, Claire Stigliani, Kensuke Yamada, and Sunkoo Yuh. C-U-B-E Design Workshop: Generative Flags

The experimental design lab, C-U-B-E, will provide you with a workshop about the basic elements of flags and the relationship between flags and citizenship. You will learn about and create generative flags by using p5.js. which is a contemporary coding method. Only 20 seats available. Labor in a Single Shot, a recent Dodd Galleries exhibition by Assistant Professor Xin Xin is featured on BURNAWAY, an Atlanta-based digital magazine. Xin Xin is an interdisciplinary artist and educator working at the intersection of technology, labor, and identity. Xin co-founded voidLab, a LA-based intersectional feminist collective dedicated to women, trans, and queer folks. They initiated the School of Otherness which seeks to empower marginalized communities through storytelling, forums, and workshops that process experiences of the other. Work by math and graphic design students Hannah Schriever, John Byers, Daniel Easley (Graphic Design alum, 2018), and Christian Pierson has been selected for the cover of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America’s (PNAS) current publication. The model featured on Volume 115, Issue 43 was published on October 23, 2018 and was produced during the spring 2018 interdisciplinary course Math Outreach Design Lab, taught by Associate Professor of Mathematics David Gay and Associate Professor and Graphic Design Moon Jang. Graphic design students, accompanied by Associate Professor Moon Jung Jang, attended AIGA Atlanta’s 9th Annual Student Pin-Up Show on October 20 at Matchstic in Atlanta.
