Flora Anthony to Teach Ancient Egyptian Art in Spring 2020

The Lamar Dodd School of Art will welcome Professor Flora Anthony as a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach two undergraduate courses on ancient Egyptian art and architecture in Spring 2020. Anthony comes to UGA from her regular position as a Part-Time Assistant Professor of Art History from the School of Art and Design at Kennesaw State University. Paul Pfeiffer Performance with the Redcoat Marching Band for Performa Biennial

Paul Pfeiffer, Dodd Chair 2016-2018, presented his first live performance in collaboration with the Performa 2019 Biennial and The Georgia Redcoat Marching Band from the University of Georgia, at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. Fifty Redcoat members—who normally perform during the breaks in play at UGA’s Sanford Stadium, home of the Georgia Bulldogs football team—performed live in this legendary music venue, recreating a two-and-a-half-hour musical score from a typical college football game, using both front and back of house of the theatre as their performance space. Remembering Dr. Nix and His Legacy

Before his tenure at Lamar Dodd School of Art, Dr. Nix taught and supervised art at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in Georgia’s public schools from 1955 to 1968, where he later joined the faculty at Dodd. He was a multi-talented artist, excelling in photography, painting, sculpture, jewelry, and wood working. He loved mentoring students and his love initiated three endowments for the school, honoring experiential learning and leadership in Art Education, as well as a general support fund for Photography. Travel Funding Awarded to Students and Faculty

In order to support its faculty and students pursuing innovative, interdisciplinary research, the Lamar Dodd School of Art offers funding for travel research. Twice yearly, the Dodd solicits and reviews applications for travel support to conferences, exhibitions, and symposia, both domestic and international. Recently, two faculty members, John Swindler and James Enos, along with two Art Education graduate students, Diane Lee and Kihyun Nam, were awarded travel funding. This fall, Gribbon exhibited her work in a solo exhibition at Fredericks and Freiser in New York City. Her work has been featured in ArtNet News and recently garnered the attention of art critic Jerry Saltz. The Lamar Dodd School of Art is pleased to announce an ongoing collaboration between Christina Foard, MFA Candidate, and Mark Mobley, Co-Director of the ACES program. Foard’s ongoing project Imagination Squared: Pathways to Resilience, is a free, city-wide social ecology project that collects public perceptions of resilience through visual symbols and stories. The Lamar Dodd School of Art is pleased to share the recent notable accomplishments of past Dodd Chair Mel Chin and current Chair Trevor Paglen. Mel Chin, Dodd Chair 1994-1997, was recently awarded a prestigious MacArthur Genius Grant. The MacArthur Fellowship confers a $625,000, “no strings attached” genius grant to thinkers, creators and scientists of exceptional caliber and is considered “an investment in a person’s originality, insight, and potential,” according to the fellowship’s website.
