Additional Lamar Dodd School of Art Facilities

In addition to the Main Art Building, the Dodd operates out of four additional buildings on three corners of the University of Georgia's campus. These separate buildings include the Thomas Street Arts Complex, Broad Street Studios, and the Ceramics Building.

A stand-alone facility devoted to ceramics was completed in 2011 and is located adjacent to the main building on east campus. On north campus, the Thomas Street Art Complex houses both sculpture and jewelry & metalwork, and the Broad Street Studios house the Interior Design program.

Sustainable Design Features of the Main School of Art Building
  • 100-year building construction on a previous parking lot area
  • Indigenous and recycled building materials
  • Interior daylighting and lighting sensors
  • Passive solar design with solar shades and light shelves
  • Efficient heating and cooling with heat recovery system
  • Low-emitting finishes and materials
  • Water-efficient fixtures and landscape irrigation

Effective Spring Semester 2024

We are adjusting building hours to enhance security measures and ensure the well-being of our students, faculty and staff. These changes reflect our commitment to providing a secure environment for learning and teaching, protecting the valuable resources within the building and the integrity of the building.

1. Building Hours:

a. The Lamar Dodd School of Art main art building will be open from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The building will only be accessible with a proximity card outside of these hours.

2. After-Hours Access:

a. All students enrolled in a class at Lamar Dodd will have building access using their proximity cards (UGA OneCard), which can be purchased for $30.00 from Tate Student Center: https://tate.uga.edu/ugacard/ or online here. This is the same as your UGA student ID card.

b. To enter the building after 6:30pm and on weekends, individuals must have a proximity card.

3. Security and Safety Measures:

a. The change in building hours and access control is implemented to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and the building's contents.

b. Unauthorized persons are not allowed in the building after hours. This means individuals without a valid proximity card, unless accompanied by proxi card holder.

4. Compliance and Support:

a. It is imperative that all members of the Lamar Dodd community support and adhere to these security measures.

b. Diligence in compliance with Lamar Dodd security policies is expected from all building occupants.

5. Prohibited Activities:

a. Propping doors open is strictly prohibited outside of regular hours.

b. Allowing unauthorized persons into the building is against security policies.

6. Security Alarms:

a. Leaving doors open for an extended time triggers a silent alarm, alerting campus police.

b. Unnecessary 'false alarm' door activations resulting in responses by campus police may incur fines, which will be charged to the responsible person.

c. Repeated violations may lead to the loss of building access privileges.

7. Lamar Dodd Sanctioned Events:

a. All preapproved activities and events, outside of building hours, will not require proximity card access.

b. To reserve space outside of building hours: https://art.uga.edu/reserve-space

8. Campus Police Cooperation:

a. Lamar Dodd School of Art will cooperate fully with campus police to ensure the effectiveness of security measures.

Questions about these policies can be addressed to artinfo@uga.edu.
