Credible Fear
At night, there is a line across Dilley, Texas. Imperceptible to the human eye, it is easy to see with long exposures. It is the light from the largest detention center in the country for women and children seeking asylum in the US. The detention center sits in a gulley, surrounded by mesquite groves. The high-power lights from the center create a distinct line across the entire area. Credible Fear is a part of a project that shows the impact of the immigration crisis on the south Texas landscape and urban life. This new work is part of the culmination of Shindelman’s Provost Fellowship to Study in a Second Discipline.
