The University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art presents Interwoven, a capstone exhibition organized by and showcasing the work of 13 students graduating with their Bachelor of Fine Arts in the fall 2023 semester. An opening reception will be held on Friday, December 1 from 6 to 8 pm in the school’s Main Art Building on 270 River Road. The show will be on view through December 8. Interwoven is free to attend and features an array of work, including ceramics, painting, photography, and more.

The title for this exhibition, Interwoven, is inspired by the artists’ stories, which, like an icy spider web, are beautifully woven together at the oustet of winter. These reflections coalesce into a grand network of materials and personalities. The patterning becomes clear; women of all walks of life crafting their threads methodically, inviting others to witness the visual experience.

When asked about her experience with the group of artists, capstone instructor Jaime Bull remarked, “These amazing artists explore identity with mixed media and experimental photography techniques, celebrate our natural world with textile, painting and immersive installation, find inspiration in music and psychedelic performance, and are interested in sharing their experiences, passions, fears and questions in their upcoming exhibition. This show is not to be missed!”

The work in the exhibition has been created by a group of artists with many different practices. Painter Sina Mahray creates a visual diary of marks and movement as a backdrop for African figures, generating a sense of space that resonates with her. Julia Evans is a printmaker that assembles illusion-like works made up of psychedelic attributions and neon color palettes in response to a vivid exploration of the enigmatic realms of the psyche. Taylor Doiron, inspired by internal struggles and shared human experience, photographs black and white portraits with a focus on lighting and contrast.
