Critique Is Creative: The Critical Response Process in Theory and Action won a Silver Nautilus Book Award in the category of Creativity & Innovation. The Nautilus Awards program recognizes literary contributions in spiritual growth, green values and sustainability, wellness, and social change and social justice. The book is the first in-depth study of the Critical Response Process, an internationally recognized method for giving and getting feedback on creative works in progress. Authors Liz Lerman and John Borstel describe the process, its origins, and principles with contributions from multiple practitioners including Art faculty member Mark Callahan.

Callahan’s essay “The Broadest Possible Interpretation of Creativity” draws upon experiences as the Artistic Director of the UGA Arts Collaborative and producer of a podcast series that includes interviews about feedback methods with professionals in art, creative writing, dance, music, theater, biology, athletics, community design, psychology, and engineering.

For students interested in studying creative feedback, ARTS 6930 “Critical Evaluation Methods in Art” will be offered in spring 2024. The core of the course is practice-based research where each participant will have the opportunity to receive, give, and facilitate group feedback in multiple settings. https://art.uga.edu/grad-courses
