Lamar Dodd School of Art is pleased to announce that PhD candidate in Art Education Andrea Elliott was awarded a competitive Graduate School Dean’s Award, a monetary award to cover expenses related to final research projects. This fund assists graduate students with the costs of doing research towards their dissertations.
Andrea Elliot is a PhD Candidate in Art Education living in Spartanburg, SC. She is an instructor of Art Education at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She taught art in both high school and elementary settings in public schools for ten years before she moved into higher education. She is currently working on her dissertation for her PhD requirements in Art/Art Education, and her study focuses on women who engage in fiber crafts. Her hope that her study will not only provide evidence of the need for fiber crafts within the art classroom but how it has the potential to impact students and their knowledge of the nature and limitations of materials. As she engages with her participants, she will also explore how space and place create intersectionality with the materials through virtual platforms as well.
