Cora Nunnally Miller Fine Arts Scholarship
The Cora Nunnally Miller Fine Arts Scholarship at the Lamar Dodd School of Art is awarded to freshmen art majors who show exceptional promise in the visual arts.
Annually, up to five art students are awarded this scholarship, ranging from $12K – $20K over the course of a four-year degree. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize exceptional artistic talent and promote the arts on the UGA campus.
The support is continuous to the student in each of the future three years as long as they continue as art majors with good academic standing. The Dodd Cora Nunally Miller Scholarships are the largest awards granted by the Lamar Dodd School of Art.
Nomination & Selection
The Dodd Cora Nunally Miller Scholarships are selected through nomination. Teachers in the Studio Art Core program may nominate up to two students from each Studio Core class that they teach. The awardees are selected from the pool of nominated students by the Studio Core faculty.
Application Process for Nominated Students
- Only students nominated by a teacher in a Studio Core class will be considered for this award
- Self-nominations are not accepted
- Nominated students must be intended art majors who are true freshman in their first semester of college at the University of Georgia
Nominated students should prepare an application as a multipage pdf.
The pdf should be titled: “Last name. First name. Instructor name.”
The multipage pdf should include:
- A resume
- A letter of interest that describes the applicant’s art experience and intended focus as an art major at the Lamar Dodd School of Art (1-2 pages)
- Three to five images of the applicant’s original artwork, with captions that include the title, medium, and the year that the artwork was completed.
Note: Generative AI may not be used to generate final artworks for submission
Nominated students will receive a link for submission from their nominating instructor. They are encouraged to discuss any questions with their instructor.

- Nominations given to the committee in mid-November
- Committee selects recipients in December
- Awardees are notified in January
- Awardees receive first award installment in late Spring semester

About Cora Nunnally Miller
Cora Nunnally Miller was a passionate advocate for animal health, conservation and the arts, and she wholeheartedly believed in the impact higher education could have on these causes. Miller anonymously gave more than $33 million to the University of Georgia Foundation throughout her lifetime and granted permission for the university to share her name only after her death. Her last gift, a bequest of $17 million made at her passing in July 2015, will have a transformational effect across the university. From that final gift, the Cora Nunnally Miller Fine Arts Scholarship fund was formed.
