Research Focus: African American and African Diasporic Art
Dr. Harris received her Ph.D. in art history from UNC, Chapel Hill and a B.A. in African American Studies from Yale. Since 2015, Dr. Harris has been the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Curator of African American and African Diasporic Art at the Georgia Museum of Art, where her curatorial and catalogue projects such as the 2021 exhibition Emma Amos: Color Odyssey and the 2026 co-curated exhibition Edmonia Lewis: Said in Stone, have won national recognition. Among her awards, is her selection as a 2021 Fellow of the Center for Curatorial Leadership and the 2022 Georgia Association of Museums Museum Professional of the Year. Dr. Harris’s academic training and professional experience have consistently centered on African American art, museum practice, and curatorial leadership.
