Research Detail
My work centers on non-objective compositions made with oil paint and ceramics. It focuses on the relationships between shape and color and all the nuances found in between. I am drawn to the subtle shifts in warm and cool hues, seeing how layers affect the ones below it, and how the boundaries of shapes interact with each other.
Creating in two mediums allows me to further explore abstraction and the different boundaries of each material. With ceramics, I am able to play with how glaze changes the piece in unexpected ways, and am constantly finding ways to work with gravity rather than against it in my sculptures. With paint, I am able to float the shapes in space and experiment with the transparency and texture of brushstrokes.
Overall, my work is meditative and allows me to explore both mediums to create pieces that follow my own sense of balance and harmony, and rely on my intuition for mark making.
