Jiayi Guo is a Ph.D. candidate in Art Education at the University of Georgia. She holds a BFA in Ceramic Art and an MFA in Contemporary Art and Theory from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. She is an artist, educator, and researcher whose work engages material culture, craft pedagogy, sensory ethnography, and critical inquiry in contemporary art education.
Her current research examines ceramic art education in Jingdezhen, China, in relation to her own studio practice. Drawing on ethnography, arts-based inquiry, and material-centered analysis, her work investigates how knowledge is transmitted through embodied practice, social relations, and engagement with clay, tools, and place. Through this research, she explores how traditional craft communities offer alternative ways of understanding teaching, learning, and artistic formation, while contributing to broader conversations about cultural diversity and epistemological plurality in art education.
