Biography
Christopher Hocking teaches in the painting and drawing area. He has served as the Associate and the Chairperson of the Painting and Drawing area. Hocking has received the Sandy Beaver Excellence in Teaching award, served as a Senior Faculty Teaching Fellow and is a member of the University of Georgia Teaching Academy.
Christopher Hocking’s painterly language employs a recombinant figural abstraction that engages with form, space, and movement. His interest is in how pictorial presence and meaning are charged from the juxtaposition and serendipitous encounters between various painterly articulations and modalities including fragmentation, hybridity, and spliced narrative.
Images derive from various sources including popular media, art and art history, science, toys, fashion, folk culture, children’s books, fables, memory, and literature.
