Brent Cavedo is a PhD student who specializes in ancient Mediterranean painting and aesthetics. His MA thesis examined ancient artistic depictions and literary descriptions of encaustic painting on marble sculpture. Cavedo’s dissertation project expands on this research into the processes of artistic production and the vocabulary of artistic connoisseurship and also investigates the idea of the ancient city of Rome as an aesthetically synesthetic museum.
