Alexandra Stover and Jordan Winiski: Slowing Down
August 28 - September 26, 2025

Opening: Thursday, Sept 4, 2025, 5 - 7 pm

The Dodd Galleries present Slowing Down, a two-person exhibition of new work by MFA candidates Alexandra Stover and Jordan Winiski. Slowing Down champions the ways their work communicates both with each other in space, and individually as art practices whose material forms encourage slow looking and introspection in curious audiences. Stover’s new body of watercolors and Winiski’s new work in ceramics and photography will be presented together for the first time, which both encourage introspection as an alternative response to our fast-paced contemporary life.

Stover states that “Slowing Down explores how I organize information to create order. Watercolor paints embody the chaos of the present moment and the tension of never being able to return to the past. Once watercolors have touched the painting surface, it can never be covered up or removed and is frozen in time.”

Winiski says that “The show is about slowing down and discovering subtle moments in nature and in the material clay. My goal is to create moments of subtle details in each work, as well as an immersive experience for the viewer. I hope to communicate the importance of slowing down and getting lost, which can lead to a variety of new discoveries. This work is important today because the world is moving at an unbelievably fast pace and it is so easy to miss subtleties in the world around us.”

About the Artists

Alexandra Tatjana Stover is a Latvian born artist who grew up in Middle Tennessee. She received a BFA at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2016. At UTM she worked in oils but converted to watercolors while working as a flight attendant due to their low maintenance and portability. While flying she drew and painted illustrative work with fantasy creatures. In 2020 she created color mixing charts as a method of organizing her paints and recording their individuality. In 2023 she started working with large abstract forms as a way to process and create understanding about her mind. She is currently studying psychology, cognition, visualizing information, and ambiguity in the MFA program at the University of Georgia.

Jordan Winiski is an MFA candidate in Ceramics at the University of Georgia. Winiski is from Greenville, SC where she taught at local art centers and graduated from Furman University, studying Studio Art and Sustainability Science. She is passionate about teaching and the importance of spending time outside. Jordan has completed residencies in Georgia and Massachusetts, has worked as a studio assistant for a local potter in Athens, GA, and is currently the instructor of record for Introduction to Ceramics at UGA.
