Absurd Construction is an exhibition in the guise of an experimental construction site. The installation, created by Dodd MFA candidates Rachel Seburn and Ethan Snow, foregrounds alternative building practices that investigate experimental applications for various materials. Pastel silicone corrugated roofing and plexiglass rebar are offered as possible material uses that might just hold up. Through the minute examination of building practices, Seburn and Snow elucidate a sustained engagement with the process of building that hinges on the ridiculous – can a wall be held up by a foam cushion? Will spray foam work successfully as a supporting beam? In their exploratory research, the artists offer building solutions through imaginative renderings of what could possibly exist in the world.
