Atlanta-based artist Stacie Rose’s site-specific Shatter, Recoup, Repeat employs gestural mark making, process, and hard geometric lines improvisationally, allowing each element of the structure to respond to another element in a continual play between color and form.
In vibrant color, the artworks of painter and printmaker Stacie Rose visualize a dichotomy of gestural marks and screen-printed patterns and shapes. Equally, however, the artist blurs the boundaries of crisp, geometric forms and spontaneous brushwork, conflating the two. Through processes of improvisation, analysis, and revision, Rose experiments with tension in opposing forms. But behind its formal conceit, her practice is also an exploration of a more general opposition between immutable, tangible things and ethereality. Much of her recent work has been focused on the unpredictable impacts of humanity and nature on organized systems. This interest is palpable in her abstractions which often recall elements of architecture, the environment, complex structures, and quotidian objects. Finally, Rose’s process and visual language are an articulation of balance in the absence of stasis.
Rose has had recent solo and two-person exhibitions at Poem88, Atlanta, GA; Swan Coach House Gallery, Atlanta, GA; and The Rymer Gallery, Nashville, TN. Her wall murals and site-specific works have been displayed at various sites including CODA Tech Square and Marta Arts Center Station, both in Atlanta, GA, and her work is held in private and corporate collections around the country. Stacie Rose earned her BFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY; she has traveled extensively but currently resides in Atlanta, GA.
