Of Problems and Some Other Knots features visual and literary work by Amalia Galdona Broche.
“Living in a cultural in-between, I am interested in the relationship between nature-nurture and the way an environment can shape character and identity. My work references the syncretizing of religious and cultural beliefs in Spanish and Afro-Cuban culture by exploring the intricacies of my sense of self. Of problems and some other Other Knots is a pointless prayer to the Virgin Mary, presented as Mary Undoer of Knots. The piece acts as a metaphoric catalog of many unspoken and selfish pleas that will not and should not be answered. Constantly adapting to the experiences, places and people around me, I mimic my journey through life with the process of collecting, tearing, breaking, joining, weaving, knotting and assembling in my work.”
