Robby Toles received a BFA in photography from University of North Texas in 2016, and completed an MFA from University of Georgia in 2020. He’s had work exhibited nationally, published both digitally and physically, and has won The Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund from the Dallas Museum of Art.

Toles' work examines psychological and philosophical topics regarding the impact of digital networks on the individual. Particularly, he is interested in how combinations of economics and everyday digital mediation contribute to desire, complacency, and oppression. Rather than a documentation of specific histories, Toles is curious how the tangled mess of contemporary information creates more than the sum of its parts. With technology becoming further intertwined with communication and our human livelihood, it is necessary to question the purpose these functions serve beyond their sales pitch. How can anyone truly keep up with a network whose infrastructure is designed to be evasive? Toles hopes to raise questions that do not yet have answers on digital care and empathy.
