Academic Area Scientific Illustration Degree BFA Year Graduated 2007 Social https://www.instagram.com/courtneykhail/ Website courtneykhail.com After graduating from the Lamar Dodd School of Art in 2007, Courtney Khail moved to Atlanta, Georgia. In 2009 Khail launched a fine art stationery and design company and in 2012 she moved to Denver, Colorado to expand the business. It was while living there- surrounded by the grandeur and beauty of the Rocky Mountains- that she began painting again. While Khail still manages her stationery line (currently carried by west elm at their Atlanta and Savannah locations), in 2015 she made the decision to return to Atlanta and focus on her artwork full time. Today Khail’s work continues to explore her fascination with nature- especially its ability to reflect the complexities and juxtapositions present within each of us. Greatly influenced by her background in scientific illustration, her work combines expressive line work with abstracted color and form, resulting in vibrant paintings that blur the line between the natural and the man made. Her work has been displayed at exhibitions throughout the United States, including Cultivated (a solo exhibit) at the Atlanta Botanical Garden (GA) and The New South III at Kai Lin Art Gallery (GA). Her work has also been featured in various publications and websites such as The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Food Network, Southern Living, and CommonCreativATL. In 2016 Jezebel Magazine named Khail “One to Watch” and in 2017 she was voted the “Atlanta’s Best Emerging Visual Artist” by Creative Loafing Magazine.
