Research Focus

My primary research interest is fine press letterpress printing techniques along with contemporary and alternative type high blocks for innovative letterpress printing. The engineering of new and innovative matrices and unexpected use of traditional matrices is at the core of my printing research imperative to expand and enhance the vocabulary of techniques for letterpress printing.

Biography

Eileen teaches letterpress printing, book arts, and hand papermaking and a thematic inquiry course on using the special collections libraries for primary source research. Eileen was recently selected as one of five artists for the exhibition A Book Arts Revolution: Georgia Women to Watch 2026 to be held at the Atlanta Contemporary gallery. Eileen was a resident artist at Penland School of Craft and has taught book arts and letterpress workshops at Penland and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Eileen curated the book Masters: Book Arts which featured the work of 40 artists; she is a co-director emeritus of the Paper & Book Intensive and former board member of Hand Papermaking magazine. Eileen earned an MLS in Library Science and an MFA in Book Arts, both from the University of Alabama and was named the 2025 Outstanding Book Arts Alum from the program.
