Cassandra Walkington

Cassandra Walkington is an art educator, designer, and community arts advocate from Arab, Alabama. She teaches Visual Arts, 2D and 3D Design, and Digital Photography at Arab High School, where her practice centers on creating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that connect artmaking with students, their school, and the larger community.

Walkington holds degrees in Graphic Design/Marketing and Visual Arts Education from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Her background in graphic design, community art instruction, and education has shaped an interdisciplinary approach to both teaching and creative practice. In addition to her work in the classroom, she is co-owner of Art & Co., a creative business focused on original design and accessible community art experiences. She also leads collaborative school and community initiatives, including Knights in the Garden, a large-scale outdoor learning and public art project incorporating murals, mosaics, student-designed artwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Through her graduate studies in Art Education at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, Walkington is interested in exploring the ways art education can extend beyond the traditional classroom and create opportunities for collaboration, community engagement, and meaningful creative experiences.

This selection represents my practice as both an artist and art educator and includes personal studio work, teacher demonstrations, student artwork, community-based art experiences, and collaborative public art projects. The work spans painting, printmaking, cyanotype, mixed media, recycled sculpture, and large-scale community art. My teaching practice emphasizes experimentation, creative confidence, student voice, collaboration, and opportunities for students to experience art beyond the classroom.
