Ashley Young

Ashley Young is a high school Art Teacher at Lambert High School in Forsyth County, Georgia, where she has taught visual arts and ceramics since 2010. Throughout her 16 years in the classroom, she has been passionate about creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and confidence in her students. She teaches Ceramics I–III, AP 3D Art and Design, and visual arts courses, with a special love for clay and helping students discover their artistic voice through ceramics.

Beyond the classroom, Ashley serves as the sponsor of her school’s National Art Honor Society chapter and mentors first-year art teachers. She also teaches a summer ceramics camp for students ages 10–13 through Forsyth County Parks & Recreation, where she introduces young artists to hand-building, glazing, resin pouring, painting, and mixed-media art. Each year, she helps facilitate Forsyth County’s Art Honors Day Raku Workshop, providing advanced art students with the opportunity to experience this exciting firing process.

Ashley earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Georgia State University and is pursuing her Master of Art Education at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. She hopes to deepen her understanding of contemporary art education, strengthen her ceramics curriculum through advanced techniques such as slip casting, and continue creating meaningful, student-centered learning experiences that inspire creativity and lifelong learning.

When she isn’t teaching, Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband Mark and their four teenage children. Their home is always full of energy thanks to their four miniature dachshunds and one miniature Pomeranian. She loves reggae music, never turns down a good bowl of ice cream, and believes the best learning happens when curiosity, creativity, and a little fun come together. Ashley is excited to begin this next chapter and looks forward to learning alongside fellow educators who share her passion for art and teaching.

Student Work from Lambert High School Artists

These ceramic works explore texture, movement, and surface through a variety of hand-built forms and functional vessels. Using both low-fire and high-fire stoneware, I experimented with alternative raku firing, crackle glazes with India ink, cobblestone glazes, exposed clay surfaces, and selective glaze removal to highlight the natural beauty of the clay body. Together, these pieces represent my continued growth as both a ceramic artist and educator while exploring the expressive possibilities of clay.
