Dear UGA Cortona Community,
It is with great disappointment that we announce the cancellation of the UGA Cortona Mostra Ceremony and Reunion event scheduled for Saturday, January 24th, 2026.
According to a National Weather Service report, a major winter storm is expected to affect north and central Georgia this weekend. A Winter Storm Watch is currently in effect from 1:00 am on Saturday, January 24th through 10:00 am on Monday, January 26th. With the potential for freezing rain and ice to create hazardous travel conditions, and the predicted disruption of air travel along the entire Eastern Seaboard, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Reunion in order to encourage our staff, alumni, friends, and supporters to stay home and safe. We know this is sad news for many of you, especially because it will not be possible to re-schedule the event.
In light of this, we are organizing an Artwork Pickup between 2:00-4:00 pm, Friday January 23rd, at the Lamar Dodd School of Art on the UGA campus in Athens. If you are within a reasonable and safe travel distance, you can stop by at any point during this window of time to retrieve your in-show artwork and not-in-show package(s), partake of some light refreshments we’ll provide, and say a brief “ciao!” to fellow Cortona program participants. If you do not have a UGA parking pass, the public pay-for-parking lots nearest to the Dodd are the East Campus Parking Deck and the PAC Parking Deck. If you are not able to pick up your work, please contact our office at (706) 542-7120 or cortona@uga.edu to make arrangements for an alternate pickup time.
For those of you who registered your artwork and package(s) to be shipped to you after the Reunion, our staff will be packing and sending out shipments in the coming weeks.
If you live more than 100 miles outside of Athens and registered your work for pick-up because you intended to attend the Reunion, but now need the work to be shipped, please e-mail cortona@uga.edu to make arrangements.
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you stay warm and safe this weekend. We look forward to celebrating together sometime in the future under better circumstances – perhaps at UGA Cortona’s 60th Anniversary, which is coming up in just a few years!
