Kate Windley’s class ARST 1050 has work up in room N105, the Studio Core Project Space, along with Catherine Chang’s class, ARST 1060.

Windley’s class is participating in a project titled “Man Ray and Me”. Students will use their camera and a computer scanner as a tool for discovering composition. By learning to manipulate the picture plane and placement of objects within the viewfinder of the screen, each student will strive to make a composition that is thoughtful and original.

Basing the classroom’s compositions on the famous painter turned photographer, Man Ray, students will start by photographing sections of their charcoal drawings and sketchbook images.  Eventually, students will overlap sections of the drawings in the computer using photoshop to make transparencies and alter the original context of the initial drawing.
