In the Fall of 2016 MFA candidate in ceramics, Yeonsoo Kim, tasked himself daily with the job of creating a new hand-built vessel or mask. The works, in accumulation act as a type of diary, or as he describes it a call “to listen to your inner voice.” In Listening, Kim presents these works that explore identity and psychological conditions through the marking and making of daily life.
Yeonsoo Kim was born in Haenam, South Korea. He received a B.F.A in ceramics and glass from the Hongik University in 2006. He has held apprenticeships with Onggi masters in Jeolla-do (Hayngjong-Oh) and Gyeongsang-do (Jinkyu Huh) in Korea. Kim has participated in several artist residency programs, including the Baltimore Clayworks, Korea Ceramic Foundation, Montana State University, and Innon Art Center. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and recentally had a solo exhibition at the Glass Gallery in Athens, GA.
