Spring 2025 graduates of the Lamar Dodd School of Art present BFA Exit Show “Surface Tension”

The University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art is proud to announce Surface Tension, the Spring 2025 BFA exhibition showcasing the creative achievements of 67 graduating BFA students. The exhibition will be presented in two parts at the Lamar Dodd Main Art Building:

• First Opening Reception: Friday, April 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm; on view through April 11.

• Second Opening Reception: Friday, April 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm; on view through April 25.

Surface Tension is free to attend and features a diverse array of artworks, including ceramics, painting, metalwork, photography, new media installation, and more. The exhibition’s title reflects the artists’ exploration of the delicate balance between external appearances and underlying complexities. Through their work, these emerging artists investigate the dynamic interplay between surface and depth, inviting viewers to consider the often tenuous boundary between what is seen and what is felt.

This exhibition marks a significant milestone for these students, representing the culmination of their academic journey and the beginning of their professional artistic careers. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with innovative and thought-provoking pieces that challenge perceptions and celebrate the rich diversity of artistic expression fostered at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

The Dodd Galleries at the University of Georgia are pleased to announce The Body Politic, our 2025 Margie E. West Prize recipient exhibition in which Lamar Dodd School of Art alumna, Kristine Potter (American, b. 1977)—BFA Photography and BA Art History (‘01)—presents a survey of selected work from three series: The Gray Line (2005-2010), Manifest (2012-2017), and Dark Waters (2015-2023).

The UGA Community Art School features courses for adults seeking to learn new skills, hone techniques, and expand their artistic expression. Taught by UGA faculty, the classes maximize individual instruction and experiential learning in the legendary studios of the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

Ally Smith, 2025 Dodd commencement speaker and recipient of Art Director’s Award for Outstanding undergraduate student, is a fourth-year graphic design student with a minor in studio art, design and media at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. Smith has worked closely with alumna Kelly Layton (BFA graphic design, '90) and credits her own interests in participating in the newly introduced Layton Design
