Professor Melissa Harshman has been included in Flourish, a group exhibition at the Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Morgan Conservatory is the largest arts center in the United States dedicated to papermaking, book arts and letterpress printing and to cultivating the talents of established and emerging artists. An international destination that is free and open to the public, the Morgan Conservatory is a working studio, gallery, gathering place for the community, educational hub and purveyor of handmade papers.
Flourish is an exhibition of four women artists working with paper. Their work references decorative arts and history of craft. Inspired by the wonders of the natural world, it honors the tradition of women’s handiwork through contemporary practice. Artists include Melissa Harshman, Melissa Haviland, Ann Marie Kennedy, and Adrienne Slane. This is the second installment of a two-part exhibition featuring works in papermaking, printing, bookbinding, book arts, and mixed techniques.
Melissa Harshman is Area Chair of the Printmaking and Book Arts department. Harshman received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1992. She has taught the Lamar Dodd School of Art since 1993. Her most recent accomplishment is a Senior Faculty Research Grant from the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts titled “Explorations in Papermaking”.
