DESCRIPTION:Speaker Name: Dr. Todd PorterfieldSpeaker's Website: websiteUniversity or Organization: New York University, Gallatin SchoolPlease join us for a keynote lecture to honor the retirement of Dr. Alisa Luxenberg, Professor of 18th and 19th-century Art. \nDr. Todd Porterfield is a scholar of nineteenth-century European art, imperialism, and globalization, whose publications include European, North American, and Middle Eastern research on museums; representations of history; critical histories of art history; Impressionism; caricature; Orientalism; and legacies of imperialism in contemporary art. He is curator of the exhibition, Love Bites: Caricatures by James Gillray (Ashmolean Museum, 2015); editor of The Efflorescence of Caricature, 1759-1838 (University of Montreal, 2012); and author of The Allure of Empire: Art in the Service of French Imperialism, 1798-1836 (Princeton, 1998); and Staging Empire: Napoleon, Ingres, and David with Susan Siegfried (Penn State, 2008).
