9th Annual Making Masters Exhibition

Each year, the Madison Museum of Fine Art in Madison, Georgia exhibits works by Dodd MFA students, curated by Dodd MA Art History students in the exhibition Making Masters. This year’s 9th Annual Making Masters exhibition is on view from September 23 through October 14, 2017.

Art History MA candidates and members of the Association of Graduate Art Students Cicely Hazell and Abigail Kosberg curated this exhibition. Featured are works by the following Dodd MFA students:

Professor Norman has work Featured in Maryland and Boston Exhibitions

Professor of Drawing and Painting Joseph Norman currently has artwork on display at the University of Maryland’s David C. Driskell Center. The exhibition, The Last Ten Years: In Focus, showcases art and archive acquisitions made during the last decade to add to its expansive permanent collection of African, African American, and African Diasporic artwork.

Professor Houser Creates Installation at Lyndon House Arts Center

Dodd Professor and Area Chair of Interior Design Thom Houser has created an installation, Connecting: Stairways to..., for the Lyndon House Arts Center in downtown Athens. His installation explores the many types of connections that occur while using stairways: Entering, Processing, Accessing, Escaping, Blocking access, Socializing, Exploring. This multi-media installation also includes sculpture, photography, and video. 

Art Jewelry Goes Online in Two Current Exhibitions of Work by Dodd Professor

Demitra Thomloudis, Assistant Professor of Jewelry & Metalwork, has work on view in two current exhibitions. CrossPASS, an exhibition with Motoko Furuhashi, is on view at the Baltimore Jewelry Center in Baltimore, MD until September 1, 2017. At the same time, the online group exhibition Body of Work: Contemporary Art Jewelry on the Body, organized through the Baltimore Jewelry Center, is available through Google Arts and Culture.

Standing Room Only: A Book Arts Exhibition in the Bridge Gallery

Standing Room Only is an exhibition by Eileen Wallace's Advanced Book Arts undergraduate and graduate students. Students include CC Calloway, Caty Cowsert, Jessica Denton, Jamie Diaz, Arron Foster, Erin Geagon, Johanna Norry, Selena Roth, Shelbie Sanderson, Garrison Taylor, and Luke Webster. The exhibition is on view at the Bridge Gallery, third floor of the Dodd, through April 21.

Clarke Atlanta University Presents Exhibition of Joseph Norman Prints

Strange Fruits Variations, Lithographs on Paper, 1999

Clarke Atlanta University exhibits Professor Joseph Norman’s lithographs from his series Strange Fruit, Autumn Berlin, and Out at Home in an exhibition titled Joseph Norman: Variations of a Theme. The Clarke Atlanta University Art Museum revisits these works from their permanent collection until May 26, 2017. This grouping of his work is described by the CAU Art Museum:

Ceramics Professor SunKoo Yuh’s Solo Exhibition to Open at MDC Museum

SunKoo Yuh: Grafted Stories” opens at the Miami Dade College Museum of Art + Design (MDC Museum) on November 30 with a solo presentation of work by Professor SunKoo Yuh. Yuh teaches ceramics at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Displaying art made over the past 12 years, the exhibition features large-format porcelain tiles and ceramic sculptures in addition to works on paper.
