Beginning in the Fall of 2008, the University of Georgia changed to a new General Education Core standard. While many requirements stayed the same, there are some significant changes that students should be aware of. Students should also be familiar with the core requirements that apply to them.
1998 Core Requirements
If a student began classes at the University prior to the Fall of 2008, he/she is subject to the 1998 Core requirements. You will recognize this core by Area A-Area F. The requirements for this core system can be found here.
2008 Core Requirements
If a student began classes at the University the Summer of 2008 or thereafter, he/she is subject to the 2008 GenEd Core requirements. This core system is identifiable by Area I- Area VI. The requirements for this core system can be found here.
Core Requirements for Transfer Students
If a student transferred to the University the summer, fall, or spring of 2008, he/she will be subject to the core system that best suits their earned credit. In other words, an advisor determined the best core system for each transfer student based on their transcripts. No transfer student should be required to take more classes on the 2008 Core. Therefore, many transfer students for these three semesters are on the 1998 Core and many are on the 2008 Core. Check with your advisor to see which core system you are required to follow.
