Exhibition reception: Saturday, August 19, 5-7pm
In a variety of media, the work in this show employs ideas of construction, visual play, and illusion. With a cool tone and modest scale, each piece melds an introspective reality with the theater of the gallery space and historical precedent. Familiar genres of portraiture, still-life, landscape, and abstraction open to contemporary experience and interpretation. An apparent simplicity and ease unfold into greater, more complex themes. The exhibition includes the work of Amanda Baldwin, Sophia Chai, Holly Coulis, Tim Davis, Ridley Howard, Carol John, Butt Johnson, Emily Noelle Lambert, Jim Lee, Tony Matelli, Veronika Pausova, Ry Rocklen, and Mitchell Wright.
The exhibition is organized by Ridley Howard, Dodd Painting and Drawing BFA alum.
