Gene Wright was named one of "Fab Four" during the 40th Anniversary of the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) at the Medical College of Georgia. The Department of Medical Illustration shares its administrative home in the SAHS and offers its graduate degree in the School of Graduate Studies at MCG. The SAHS 40th Anniversary Celebration included activities and festivities included a banquet to honor and recognize distinguished and outstanding alumni from the past 40 years. SAHS Dean, Dr. Shelley Mishoe, asked each department chair in the School to designate four alumni that would comprise the "Fabulous Forty." Gene Wright was one of four selected from 250 medical illustrators who graduated with Masters degrees from the Department of Medical Illustration.
Criteria for selection were contributions to and leadership in the profession as well as significant contributions to the education of medical illustrators. Gene Wright (1989) was selected as one of the Fab Four who have distinguished careers and have distinguished themselves in leadership, education, and practice. Looking back on Gene Wright's accomplishments include more than 25% of the MCG Medical Illustration graduates since 1990 were either graduates of or took coursework in Wright’s Scientific Illustration major in the Lamar Dodd School of Art. No other school or program comes close to that percentage. Of greater significance than the percentage is the fact that Wright’s students are well schooled in art and science and become competent professionals who remain in the field of medical illustration for long and distinguished careers.
