Dave McKenzie is a NY-based artist working primarily in performance, sculpture, and video. His conceptually driven work questions how social identities are created, and uses cultural symbols to propose new representations of the self. Mr. McKenzie was born in Kingston Jamaica, studied printmaking and then performance, and has his BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He has had solo exhibitions at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects, Wien Lukatsch Galerie in Berlin, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center in Atlanta, REDCAT in Los Angeles, and The Institute of Contemporary Art Boston in Boston, among others. He was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial and the influential traveling exhibition Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art, in addition to many more group exhibitions. He will give a public lecture on his work at 5pm Thursday March 24th, 2016 in S151.
