PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The following two courses are designed for undergraduate students with career goals in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, veterinary medicine, biological and biomedical sciences, excercise science, nutrition, research, and teaching.

The two courses are taught by three senior faculty members:

ARTS 2001, Dr. Shelley Zuraw, Department of Art History
Visiting Lecturer: Dr. Richard Panico - Director of the Mind-Body Institute, Athens Regional Medical Center

BCMB/GENE 3433. Biology for Medicine. 4 credit hours.
Prerequisite: BIOL 1107 or equivalent.
This course covers an array of current topics in biochemistry, genetics, molecular and cellular biology, physiology, pathophysiology, and biotechnology, and consists of lectures and discussion sections each day. Students will write short essays on selected topics.

ARTS 2001. Looking At Art In Situ. 3 credits S/U.
Students will learn how to appreciate, analyze, and think critically about original works of art in situations unlike the traditional art appreciation or art history classes. The emphasis will be on seeing and discussing actual works of art in their cultural settings, not reproductions through digital images. Each student will be given a specific work that they will prepare in advance in order to present to the class on site.

Cost: The basic cost of the Science Maymester program is $4,600, but airfare, some meals, and personal expenses bring the total cost of the program to around $6,000 ± several hundred dollars depending upon student`s individual choices. (An additional $250.00 fee is required for non-UGA students.) The Hope Scholarship provides partial support for eligible students. Several $2,000 scholarships, based on need and merit, are available with minimal duties associated. More information about Maymester Money Matters.
