Application Process
Deadlines
MFA in Studio Art and MA in Art History only accept applications for fall matriculation.
January 1 (Fall matriculation)
- Art History (M.A., Ph.D.)
- Art Education (M.A.Ed., M.A.Ed. with certification, Ph.D.)
- Departmental Assistantship Application - You must complete a School of Art Assistantship Application Form to be considered for an award.
January 7 (Fall matriculation)
- Studio Art (M.F.A.)
(Exception for Interior Design: Although it is recommended that all applicants meet the January 7 application deadline for the School of Art, Interior Design will also consider applicants for each academic year if applications are received three weeks before the Graduate School Deadline for Fall - April 15.) - Departmental Assistantship Application - You must complete a School of Art Assistantship Application Form to be considered for an award.
March 1 (Summer Matriculation)
- Art Education (M.A.Ed., M.A.Ed. w/certification, Ph.D.)
August 1 (Spring matriculation)
- Art Education (M.A.Ed., M.A.Ed. with certification, Ph.D.)
- Art History (Ph.D.)
Please note: Applications for graduate study received after the January 1 deadline will not be considered for assistantships during the first year. Assistantships begin Fall Semester.
Procedures
Step 1
Complete the University of Georgia on-line application found here.
We encourage you to submit the application as soon as you decide to apply to the Lamar Dodd School of Art. The University of Georgia is closed for the holidays beginning Tuesday, December 25th and resumes normal business hours on Wednesday, January 2nd.
Applications must be accompanied by $75 application processing fee. The fee for international applicants is $100.
Step 2
Upload your application supporting materials to Slideroom.
You will be asked to create an account, register, and start a new submission. Please choose Graduate Applications for Fall 2013 under categories. There will be a $10 submission fee to upload materials, which you must complete by the application deadline.
Three letters of recommendation must be submitted through Slideroom with all other supporting materials. These letters should be from former professors or other art professionals.

Studio Art

Step 3
Mail two official transcripts from each degree-granting institution to:

Official transcripts must be mailed directly from the institution to the University of Georgia Graduate School, not issued to the student.

Studio Art
- (M.F.A.) - no standardized test required
Additional Requirements for International Applicants
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Required of international applicants for all degrees for whom English is not their native tongue.
